Meet the Founder
Shant Hagopian has been a marathon runner for 10 years and a powerlifter for 4 years. He received his undergraduate degree from UCLA and his Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard Law School. Shant worked as a start-up corporate attorney in Silicon Valley before leaving to start his own company, DOHIIT, Inc. He became a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine after realizing the impact that a lack of time was having on his health and his mission is to help busy people live healthier.
Health and time are the most important currencies in our lives. Unfortunately, they are both usually sacrificed when we pursue higher education and our future careers. Even though the world is more health-conscious today than at any other point in time, we continue to suffer from many health issues that could be prevented through diet and exercise. 33% of the world's population is overweight and US children are leading this rising statistic. We are working longer hours, eating unhealthy foods and sitting down all day.
So why don't we make the time to exercise? We are too busy! That problem is what lead to my further interest in studying the research and protocols of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). HIIT can offer as great or even greater health benefits than steady-state cardio in much less time. Although it should not be the only form of exercise that is used, it can be a great form of exercise during the work-week because that's when we have the most time.
I've been running long-distance for many years of my life. My workouts would take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to complete. I used to shy away from sprinting because I thought it wasn't for me. I couldn't sprint as fast or as far as my friends, but I could jog a few hours around my neighborhood. So, I just convinced myself that steady-state cardio was better suited for me.
Then I got my desk job and my health got worse. I could only do my long runs on the weekends. On weekdays, I wouldn't workout at all because it would take me forever to work up a sweat, eat and shower. Don't get me wrong - I still love distance running, so I save it for when I have more time. I started this company because I want to help make HIIT more accessible for the busy students and professionals who think that true workouts need to last for an hour. That's fine if you have an hour, but not necessary if you don't.
